RJ45 Economiser / Cat5e SplitterI702040 £3.83 £4.50
RJ45 Economiser / Cat5e Splitter Sold singularly, but usually required in pairs. Nearly all Cat5e & Cat6 installations use only half of the 4 pairs contained within the cable. With one RJ45 Economiser (aka Cat5e Splitter) at the wall socket/desk end and another at the patch panel these devices allow the user to make use of the dormant pairs and negate the need to re-cable from the cabinet for an extra socket.

NB These RJ45 economisers / Cat5e Splitters are compatible with Cat6 but are only rated to Cat5e.

Another splitter question
Question/comment by B Maguire from Belfast

I have an RJ45 cable running from modem to existing PC. I want to put another PC in same room without additional cable. Can I use this splitter for this? Will I need two or can I just split the feed at the PC end? Thanks.

You will always need two. Trying to explain this in a brief message without pictures is difficult, but if you were to imagine that you have one cable linking two rooms, then you will need one of these each end. (if your cables have plugs on the end then you will also require an RJ45 coupler on each end). When used in pairs, this product basically takes two sources in two sockets and sends them down one cable and then splits again the other end in to two sockets. It does not split the signal, only a switch can do this. We will attempt to illustrate this on the site soon.

Question
Question/comment by Dicky Duffield from Plymouth

Q: hello, will the economiser work between my powerline plug and a wii ? I want to have my home network available at both the wii and my netgear eva 8000, thought this bit of kit might do the job, am I right ?
Thanks

A: Without knowing the location of everything it is difficult to answer. But basically you need two inputs at one end (e.g. from a switch or router) to give two outputs at the other.

USB to RJ45 and Back
Question/comment by Colin Jones from Blackburn

Q: Can I use this to run from a PC to a USB device say 50 metres away and convert back to USB at the other end. SO basically I am using existing RJ45 cable to a patch panel to connect to a USB device in a seperate loacation ?

A: The I702050 will not do this and we have added some text to it's description to point this out. However, the I702060 will! You need two, it is a new product to us and was not published on the website due to lack of a decent image and spec sheet, however I have ticked the box so it is published and available to buy. Images and tech data will follow in the next few days.

Splitter question (I702040)
Question/comment by steve from basildon

Q: Hi. Can I put this in back of my modem then plug two cables into it so i can go on internet down stairs and play xbox live upstairs. Please advise. Thank you.

A: No. If your modem only has 1x RJ45 socket on it then you will need a switch. I.E 1x cable from your modem to your switch, then 1 cable from your switch to downstairs and the other cable from your switch to upstairs. Our switches are 19" rack mountable business class products and an 8 port (at time of writing) costs £27 + vat + delivery. You should be able to pick up a cheap 4 or 5 port plastic unit your local computer shop for about £15 inc vat.

Further info: In short, This product is intended to make use of the normally redundant pair in a cat5 cable and must be used in pairs to achieve this, 1 at the source, be it a router, switch or patch panel and one at the other end, e.g. a wall mounted RJ45 Socket.
